| This view is awesome, but I missed my studio! |
Ahh, the possibilities of balls of clay. I warm up with mugs after a few weeks away from the studio.
Often I have an irrational fear that I won't be able to throw after a period away...weird.
After throwing 24 mugs, I set out to work on a cookie jars. Made three....I must have been hungry when making these- they are generously sized!! I finished the day with five compost jars. A good day's work.

I've been having difficulty with the rubber stamp imprints on the mugs. The imprint was not going in deep enough, which causes it to not hold glaze and then the glaze is burns out in the center. So today I did the imprinting at an earlier stage, while the clay was still tacky. The white you see is corn starch, which helps the stamp from sticking. Right now I am using rubber stamps for this, but think I'll invest in a more sturdy stamp in the near future.
It's also been interview week from the students of Robert Young of TropiClay Studio, in Guam. I've had six students contact me, which leads me to believe they have had difficulty coming up with others who will respond ;) I finally wrote up a single statement and sent it to them all. A few followed up with more questions~ I suspect they are the 'A' students!! Anyway, it's nice to write out what I do and why I do it...too often I hardly think of it. Articulating my purpose and situation help me see it more clearly.
Really glad to be back!
