Misc. Studio Stuff

Remember that post about the lost glaze recipe? (here) Well, I am still hunting for it, but after this batch I am done. I will let it go and consider it an act of the Higher Power that is was (is?) lost if none of these work out ~

Also included with this batch is a load of colors meant for the first firing of the gas kiln... I figure I might as well check them out in oxidation too- so each test gets two tiles...44 total. Something is definitely wrong with me!

I am working on spouts, pitchers and pedestals...still need work on all! It's fun to try new things. Thanks to John Bauman for his amazing work that continues to make my jaw hang open every time he posts new photos....anyway, I am hoping to develop my own work while trying to imitate his. Hey, at least I'm being honest about it and giving credit!

Finally, this weekend I had the pleasure of sharing my studio with a young potter working on a set of dishes. Long story, but I bisque her work occasionally and this week she asked for a glaze fire- sure. Unfortunately I think the kiln overfired and pin holes galore....boo pin holes. Of course I feel responsible. She has only 4 bats - can you imagine?! So, Amy came over to work in my studio. It was delightful having another potter in the space. We hummed along for 8 hours. Amy managed to put a big dent in the (re-do) order and will finish working on it this week while I am at my "real" job. Sadly, she will soon be leaving town for a temp. job upstate. Hard to find work for young people these days and she has to take it where she can.

Have a great week everyone!
