Creative Statement and Style

Years ago, my pottery teacher insisted that I needed to "find my style". I was 15. That comment has stuck with me and I still get twisted in knots when I think about "finding my style". How does one find a style? What if I have no style? What if I don't have a creative statement...? What does my work mean? Does it matter that I am not sure?  Does that make what I create "less than"? And who gives a hoot anyway??!!  Isn't the process of creating a process? Why does it have to be defined or articulated in words...can't it just be- or BE ?

Will it have style?

Here is what I know: I love clay, I need to create with clay and I am a better person because of my work with clay.  I have a desire to make things people will use in their daily lives.

I like earth, real, substance, honesty, reliability, comfort, and home.
I hope that comes through in what I create.
