Wood Kiln Unloaded

I have to say, my first experience with a Wood Firing was exciting, to say the least.  I learned so much from the generous tutoring of more knowledgeable potters.
Here we look into the second chamber of the kiln. Unloading is like a puzzle- things shift during the firing, pots get stuck...such drama! Taking extreme care to unload and not damage anything in the process.

The bottom of the kiln's second chamber did on get much ash, therefore the pots (both mine pictured) are toasted, but not glazed!

This is the first chamber unbricked. It went under a fairly  heavy reduction. Can you see the difference in colors compared to the second chamber? More greys. The kiln poses for photos before we unload!

Fascinating how heat, smoke, and ash react with clay and glazes.

A great load of pottery is set out below and to the side of the kiln. So much to learn from each firing. Thank you to Dan Greenfeld for his generous offer to let me participate and put some of my pots in the kiln. Looking forward to the summer firing~
